Good Friday

We will be hosting a 6PM service online and in person for Good Friday. During our time together we will remember the day Jesus willingly suffered and died by crucifixion as the ultimate sacrifice for our sins. The sacrifice that forever allowed us the hope of eternity.

It will be a beautiful night of worship, a time for us all to join together in communion and hear a message from Pastor Adam. We will see you there, don’t forget to invite a friend!

“From noon until three in the afternoon darkness came over all the land. About three in the afternoon Jesus cried out in a loud voice, “Eli, Eli, lema sabachthani?” Matthew 27:45-46

*There will be no Children's Programming offered at our Good Friday service.

Easter Sunday

When Jesus Christ was crucified some 2000 years ago, there were only about 120 followers. Today, there are more than 2 billion people in the world who claim to be followers of Jesus. Why did Christianity spread so far and so fast? How did that happen? One of the reasons is that people found hope! Hope in a resurrected savior…

Baptism Sunday

Is it time for you to proclaim publicly your faith in Christ by being baptized? Baptism does not save, but it is an act of obedience for all believers*. Let everyone know that you are a new creation and register below for our next baptism!

*While we believe that children can have a sincere faith in Jesus, we have found the best practice is to wait until a child is at least eight years old before the child takes the step of baptism. Boundaries

Having clear boundaries is essential to a healthy, balanced lifestyle, isn’t it? Often, Christians focus so much on being loving and unselfish that they forget their own limits and limitations. When confronted with their lack of boundaries they ask questions like "Can I set limits and still be a loving person?", "What are legitimate boundaries?", "What if someone is upset or hurt by my boundaries?", "How do I answer someone who wants my time, love, energy, or money?", "Aren’t boundaries selfish?", and "Why do I feel guilty or afraid when I consider setting boundaries?" This nine-week class will help you learn when to say yes, when to say no, and how to take control of your life.

Please complete the information below to register for the nine-week Boundaries class that begins Tuesday, January 23 at 6:30PM - 8:30PM in room 208.

If you already have a Boundaries Participants Guide, please email tammym@pathwayschurch.us to enroll in the class.

NOTE: The class will need a minimum of six people to be held. To guarantee to have a book on time for the first session, please register by Wednesday, January 10 (you can still register after this date -- this is only to guarantee your book arriving in time for the first class session)

SCRIPTURE READING — LUKE 2:8-14

At the time when Jesus was born, life for shepherds was hard. Their days and nights were spent in the dreary routine of taking care of sheep. Society looked down on them as lowlifes and scoundrels. They had little reason to be joyful.

But shepherds were the ones to whom the angel brought the good news that would cause great joy: A Savior had been born! It was God’s way of saying that he identifies with the down and out, the outcasts of society, the undesirables. And on that night, whatever darkness they were facing was transformed into the most beautiful light they’d ever seen, as the angels of heaven joined in singing, “Glory to God in the highest. . . .” For those shepherds out in the fields of Bethlehem, life would never be the same.

Perhaps on this Christmas Day you are finding it difficult to feel joy. Perhaps there is an empty chair at your table. Perhaps you’re thinking about a family member who has turned away from the Lord or is no longer a part of your life. Perhaps you have been diagnosed with a terrible illness. Whatever the reason, you don’t feel like celebrating.

If so, the Christmas message is for you. There is good news with great joy also for you. Why? Because the Savior came to make things right. He came to heal the brokenhearted, to bring light into your darkness.

Prayer

Father in heaven, help us to catch a glimpse of the light the Savior came to bring. We ask this in his name. Amen.

Bible Readings

Take a few minutes to read the Bible verses listed and ask the Holy Spirit to lead you in how this verse applies to you this week.

Acts 22:1-21

Memory Verse

Romans 10:13

All who call out to the Lord will be saved. (CEV)

Reading

Have you ever had a big problem that you couldn’t fix on your own? Maybe you got a bad grade in school or you messed up and caused a sibling to get hurt. Who helped you understand that what you had done was wrong? Maybe your teacher explained the right answers for the assignment, or your parents showed you how misbehavior can affect other people.

Paul made the worst choices and messed up in a huge way. In Acts 22, Paul tells his life story about how even though he used to put people who loved Jesus in jail, Jesus still saved him. Of course, you haven’t done the incredibly bad things Paul did, but no one- not Paul... not you...not me- can earn God's forgiveness. Just as Jesus had done for Paul, he helps us recognize our sin. It’s Jesus who can pay the price. Remember the Christmas story: God sent Jesus to pay for all the wrong that we’ve done.

So what do we do now? In thankfulness for God’s forgiveness and Jesus’ sacrifice, Christians are called to spread the good news about God’s mercy. Be patient with family and friends, and forgive those who cause trouble for you. By showing patience and forgiveness to others, you can help your family and friends celebrate a peaceful Christmas and focus on its true meaning: the birth of Jesus, God's merciful gift to the world.

Prayer

Dear Merciful God, thank you for sending Jesus as your gift to the world. Help me to remember to share the good news with others, and to be merciful just as you are merciful to me. Amen.

Amen.

Christmas Devotional

Read This On Christmas Morning

I don't know what your family traditions are, but I would hope that the reading of the Word of God is included on the agenda for Christmas Day. If it's not, make 2015 the year to start a new tradition!

The Scripture passage that you're about to read doesn't immediately come to mind as a Christmas passage, but it's one that should be included in every gathering. I'll explain why, but for now, take a moment and let the words sink in:

ROMANS 8:31-39

"What then shall we say to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us? He who did not spare his own Son but gave him up for us all, how will he not also with him graciously give us all things? Who shall bring any charge against God's elect? It is God who justifies. Who is to condemn? Christ Jesus is the one who died—more than that, who was raised—who is at the right hand of God, who indeed is interceding for us. Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or danger, or sword? As it is written,

“For your sake we are being killed all the day long;
we are regarded as sheep to be slaughtered.”

No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us. For I am sure that neither death nor life, nor angels nor rulers, nor things present nor things to come, nor powers, nor height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord."

ALL YOU NEED IS LOVE

Why should you read this passage to your family on Christmas? Because Romans 8 reminds us what the Christmas story is all about, by defining the glorious result of the birth of Jesus.

What was the glorious result of Jesus' birth? In a word - love. Think about it:

Jesus deserved to be loved, but he was rejected so that we, who deserve to be rejected, would be eternally loved by the Father.

Jesus subjected himself to the fickle and failing love of his followers so that we will know the faithful and unfailing love of the father.

Jesus experienced separation from the Father so that nothing could ever separate us from the Father's love.

This Christmas, remind yourself and your family that hope is only found in how much you've been loved by Jesus. It will be tempting to look for hope in the gifts that you receive or in the gifts that you give or in the people that you celebrate Christmas with, but those gifts will get old, your generosity will wrestle with your selfishness, and the people who say they love you will find a way to disappoint you once again.

The only hope that you have this Christmas is in the love that God has for you. Husbands, you won't love your wife like you're supposed to. Wives, you won't love your husbands like you're supposed to. Brothers and sisters, you won't love your siblings like you're supposed to. Parents, you won't love your kids like you're supposed to. Kids, you won't love your parents like you're supposed to. But God will always love you perfectly.

Christmas Day is a celebration of how much God loves us. Don't miss out on an opportunity to share that Good News. Remind yourself and your family to fix your eyes on Jesus and celebrate that there's eternal, life-changing hope for you!
